Ancestral wisdom grounded in modern anatomy and physiology for deep healing
Tul’ix Therapy is a holistic bodywork modality rooted in the ancient healing traditions of the Masewal Maya people of Central America. This work was generously passed down by Don Elijio Panti, a revered H’men (healer, herbalist, and spiritual guide) from Belize. His teachings were further developed by Dr. Rosita Arvigo, who apprenticed with Don Elijio for over a decade and integrated her own knowledge in anatomy, physiology, and natural medicine to evolve the work towards what it is today.
Tul’ix Therapy draws from this lineage and continues to grow through the shared wisdom of many practitioners. It brings together traditional sobada (abdominal and reproductive massage) with additional bodywork techniques that support the body structurally, functionally, and energetically.
-
Tul’ix (pronounced tool-eesh) Bodywork helps restore balance in the body by supporting healthy flow—of blood, lymph, nerves, and Chu’lel (life force energy, in Yucatec Maya). This work encourages the body’s natural ability to heal by:
Repositioning abdominal and pelvic organs
Releasing held tension and emotional imprints
Enhancing circulation and nervous system flow
Restoring inner harmony and homeostasis
While deeply rooted in tradition, these techniques are grounded in an understanding of modern anatomy and physiology, offering a bridge between ancient knowledge and contemporary care.
-
Tul’ix Therapy is gentle, non-invasive, and inclusive. It supports people of all genders and stages of life, and can be especially helpful for:
Fertility, preconception, and pregnancy
Postpartum recovery and womb healing
Emotional challenges and trauma recovery
Menstrual irregularities or pelvic pain
Digestive issues and gut health
Post-surgery integration and preparation including hysterectomy
Reconnection with body, spirit, and ancestry
-

Honouring the Lineage
Tul’ix therapy is rooted in a living lineage of Maya healing wisdom. We honour the legacy of Don Elijio Panti, a revered Maya healer of Belize, whose deep knowledge and generous spirit continue to ripple through this work. One of his students, Dr. Rosita Arvigo, carried this tradition forward with respect and dedication, helping to share it with the wider world.
The name Tul’ix—the Yucatec Maya word for dragonfly—has been blessed in a ceremonial fire by Don Elijio’s niece Maria Garcia and Maya firekeeper Walter Coholio. With deep reverence, we acknowledge the Indigenous roots of this practice and its connection to the Maya community today.
